Default tach problem not the usual problem

ok so i got a tach from my 98 that i know works and i put it in my car and it did not work the tach from my car works in the 98 but not in my car what could be the problem where are the wires or plug that to to the motor or what not i have no idea whats wrong with it

i kinda figured no one would be able to figure it out or even give me an idea?

does your car have the wire for the tach signal?

well back when i had the sohc in the car the tach worked fine i swaped a dohc in from a 1999 plymouth the tach also worked in the donor car i got the dohc from so im not sure what happened mine is a 1997 plymouth ive been trying to find out whats wrong with it for a very long time and no one can figure it out i also have a stick in the car now and the tach would be great to have fixed lol

Yeah, I would have to say that your car lack the wire which sends the signal to the tach. Sorry I don't know which color it is.

its ok ill have to look into it further i use to work now it done ever since i swaped the dohc so im not sure how to fix it

i think its grey with a blue line/tracer on it not 100% sure tho

he said when his car had a sohc his tach worked fine so he obviously has the tach wire... its just now that he swapped to his dohc engine his tach no longer works...

well wheres the signal come from for the tach? coil pack? crank sensor?

the actual signal for the tach is coming from the computer i believe... which is told from the crank sensor or coil pack not sure which
