Default timing question

is there any way to retard the timing without using adjustable cam gears or is that just the easiest way..maybe timing belt?

engine management system, MSD DIS II, etc. If you just install you're timing belt a tooth or two off, it will run like crap

just being one tooth off is 9-10 degrees off. Ideal retarding of the cam for performance reasons should be done 1 degree at a time on an engine dyno until peak performance is acheived.

You do not want to cut corners in the timing area.
