Default Rear main seal

How hard is it to replace the rear main seal? From the sound of my manual, it doesn't sound easy but I thought I'd ask to see what people that have already done it think about the task. Thanks.

well you either have to drop the tranny or pull the motor either way the have to come apart and then you can replace it which is the easy parts its just all the work getting to the point of actually replacing the seal

you can do it without completely removing the tranny, but its a little tricky...
put a jack under the tranny...
unbolt the tranny and torque convertor (or clutch)
dislodge the passenger side cv shaft
remove the tranny mount completely
then you can shift the tranny sideways just enough to get in there to the seal....but it is pretty tricky....easiest way is to just completely remove the tranny

Thanks guys, that's pretty much what I expected to hear but wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing out on some slick short cut.

I may just live with the leak for that matter.

I use a shop close to my job to work like this for me. They are reasonably priced and do some good work. I use them when I don't feel like working on the car or don't have time to do something.

yeah its always good to find a good shop that you can trust when you get to a project you just don't have the time or really don't want to do.... i love working on my vehicles but there is just some things like when i blew the motor in my wifes van up i sure as hell didn't want to put a new motor in it in my driveway.... lol so off to the trusted shop it went... not only is he a very trusted mechanic but he is also very reasonably priced it also helps that he used to work with my dad at a dealership when i was like 3 so hes known me forever lol....
