but how is the right way to remove the old oil pump. i dont know how to get the timing belt drive pulley off. im assuming after that is off then the pump will just slide off the crankshaft.

with a puller that you already tried. The factory ones are really hard to get off, since they have been on for a long time, plus water has gotton in there and caused a bit of rust to build up. Yea once its off the pump will just slide off, just get a new one, I believe they are only 20-30 bucks.

you have to use a puller to get the HB pulley off. Use the bolt from the engine mount to pull on. After you get that off then you have to remove the timing sprocket with a HB puller, then the oil pan, the pickup tube and the pump

this is a HB puller, the bolts go into the sprocket

this is a regular puller, youll need a 3 jaw puller for the pulley

thats cool i have both a 3 jaw puller and a steering wheel puller or hb puller. i got the motor out of the car in pieces in my garage and i just ended up cutting and cracking the timing belt pully to get it off.
