Removing shifter ****?

I am going to make a pistol grip for my shifter,how is the original one removed.
What is involved with putting in a short throw shifter?

to remove the stock ****, you have to pull the boot all the way down....then you will see 2 clips...pull out on the clips and slide the **** off

to put a short throw in its long but easy, you have to remove the console and the shift boot (they are seperate) and then just disassemble the shifter perch and reassemble with the short throw in place

Does it change the ratio or is it just a shorter lever?

a true STS will make the distance beteeen shift shorter.
