Default Need a new engine

Well, I got a 97 neon, 2.0L SOHC.

Im looking to do an engine swap, the old engine has around 105k miles on it, and is just causing problem after problem.

Im looking for a cheap engine that will fit (less the $500 preferably) and hopefully less then 80k miles.

I also have a question... ive found a 2000-2002 2.0L SOHC with 53k miles on it, will it fit into my 97?

Thankyou

yup. itll fit.

youll want to use the 1g intake manifold of course, just to make things easier for the swap.

i think thats it. i cant really think of anything else different. youll definately have to use the 1g engine-side motor mount setup.. but thats a given really.

oh, hrm. the 2g uses a tensioner setup for the ac/ps belt? not sure how well/easy that swaps into the 1g.. but if you are just gettin the motor and no accessories, i dont see it being much of a problem. but that does remind me that you will have to change the pulley from the 2g style, to the 1g style for the crank. the 2g uses two vbelts.. while the 1g uses one ribbed, one vbelt.

A lot (most) of the 2nd gen Neons didn't have an EGR assembly at all, although there should be a plate over the port on the head where it should be. Some heads didn't have the hole there at all, just something to check... unless you're using an aftermarket PCM, you'll get the CEL without the EGR hooked up.

A couple of sensors may have changed here and there, but those should be easy and obvious enough.

They changed the crankshaft signal in 2003 and it's incompatible with all the 1995-2002 computers, just something else to keep in mind if you find a great deal on a newer engine.

Best of luck!
