1997 Help
I picked up a 1997 Dodge Neon for 200 bucks.... The only problem is it has a blown engine... it is the 1997 2.0 DOHC Auto Neon. I have been looking for a replacement engine for it.. but I can only find SOHC engines.... my question to anybody here in the know is... will the short block of the 2.0 SOHC line up and fit onto the head of the DOHC. I need to know, becasue I would rather swap blocks, and not the electrical harness for the SOHC. Or would it be prudent to tear this one down and rebuild it.... It has a spun bearing, and a broke connecting rod. Thats the reason I got it, becasue I can do an engine swap, but didn't relaize hopw hard it was to find the DOHC.
Thanks. all and I'm new to this site...

www.car-parts.com is where I normally go to look for salvaged parts. You'd have to look specifically in your area, but there are hudreds available, many for under $500. I'm used to seeing them go for $250 or so... Might want to try neons.org classifieds.
Replacing the bearings isn't remarkably difficult. If the rod has scored up the cylinder, you'll have to bore it out at the very least, and that means bigger bucks for replacement pistons (and rods).
Stock CR on both is 9.8:1. But the DOHC's have a larger combustion chamber and domed pistons, so DOHC head with SOHC pistons gives about 9.3:1, SOHC with DOHC pistons gives about 10.3:1.
Best of luck!

I was thinking... that if the block lines up, I can then go have the head shaved down a few thousanths, and that would remedy the compression loss? This is not a performance vehcile, just need to get it running... BTW, what is the MPG on this vehicle?
