Question What is a good price to replace the timing belt?

Ive been quoted £159 inclusive which is approx $240. I have a 2.0 manual if that makes any difference. Is that a fair price?

Thanks

$240? yeah, thats a good price! Question though, does that include the timing belt itself? Also, if you're doing the timing belt, have them do the water pump as well as it wont last as long as the new belt and when it goes, it will take the belt and possibly the valves with it.

I think it includes the actual timing belt as he said it was "inclusive". Its a good independent garage ive been to before. Ill ask how much it would cost to change the water pump also.

A new water pump here in the US is about $45, that includes a gasket. While they are replacing the timing belt and have to do all the dirty work anyway, they should not charge more then 1/2 labor to do the work of actually replacing the pump.

FYI

Don't forget about the idler pulley as well. That is what froze up on my neon and took out the belt.

So you wanna get a quote for the idler pulley, water pump and timing belt.
