Default 96 Neon SOHC Codes 17 and 21

Hi all

Got codes 17 and 21

" Code 17- Closed loop temp not reached or engine cold too long "

Could this be the thermostat is stuck open ?

Or is the coolant temperature Sensor bad ?

" Code 21- 02 sensor problem (oxygen sensor), upstream or downstream "

Self explanatory ? replace both sensors ?

Thanks !

Code 21 is generally the upstream sensor. Check the wiring and make sure it is not exposed or oily and making a good connection.

How's the car running?

Thanks for the help, i'll check the wiring and connector, it's actually running pretty good, no major issues, starts fine, warms up fine although i think changing the thermostat will clear up the other code, because it does seem to take awhile to warm up.

Replaced the thermostat, the old one was literally rusted to pieces !!!!!

So that should clear up the code 17

Ordered the upstream 02 sensor since the wiring checked out fine.

This should clear up code 21

Thanks again for the help !!
