Default catalytic converter

i know it may be a dumb question but can i remove the cat without causing problems to the engine

You can remove the cat - I just hope you don't live anywhere where you must get an emissions inspection, because it will never pass if you do. Also, be aware that in some states, it is illegal to remove the cat even if you don't have to get an inspection. Better check first.

The only problem you will have is that the rear (downstream) O2 sensor may kick out an error code and turn on the Check Engine Light due to the increase in noxious stuff coming out of the tailpipe - and not enough O2.

You can correct that my just removing the downstream O2 sensor (it is the one after the cat), but that can give you yet another error code that will cause the CEL to kick on.

I have heard there is a way around that too, but I do not do mods, so maybe one of the main mod-heads in this forum can help you with that one.
