Unhappy Transmission Oil Pump

Had my 98 Neon (automatic) in the shop a few weeks ago to replace the alternator belt. A few days while do a very slow turn in a parking lot I heard a terrible squealing for a few seconds. Then yesterday when doing a u-turn the squealing came back way louder and didn't stop. I pulled over and turned off the engine.

It sounds like a belt rubbing, however, the shop that did the alternator belt replacement towed the car to their shop and told me after inspection that the transmission oil pump needs replacing. The report doesn't feel right.

Any feedback...?

Are you by any chance running your A/C when this squealing occurs? Sounds more like your Power Steering Belt needs to be tightened. Or, you could be low on power steering fluid as well.

yeah, I dont think that I would trust that shop. when you had your altenator belt replaced they had to remove the PS and AC belt before they could put the alternator belt on. sounds like the shop did a **** poor job of putting the belt back on.
