1st Gen Racecar...kinda
Hey y'all. I'm a member of Ricey Incompetizione, a team of engineering students and pilots attempting to race our $100 1st gen in the Chumpcar series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMnhF...layer_embedded
Here's what I usually race:

and here is what we will be attempting to keep on track and running for 12 hours:

The car is an ex dirt racer and has a crude cage in it and a rebar-windscreen. We are planning on fixing as much as we can on a limited budget before the 2010 Not Quite 12 Hours of Sebring.
I'm hoping to seek out some brains to pick in regards to cheap fixes and modifications. The first thing I'm interested in tracking down a set of wheels that I can mount some high-performance summer tires to. Our car is a 99 and from what I've read that means that it has 5x100 hubs and comes with 14" stock wheels with an ET of 40. What width are they though? Also, what size wheels can fit under these fenders at stock ride height?

There are a few more tire choices in larger sizes and we'd like to loose a little sidewall height if possible. We may want to go for 15" wheels for that reason. I'm thinking a 195/55/15 would be a good choice. Any idea where to find cheap 5x100 wheels for sale?
