Default skipping on acceleration

I have a 98 neon SOHC. Sometimes, not all the time, the car will start skipping upon acceleration. If i let off the gas it will stop, if i am going downhill it will stop, if i am sitting still it won't do it. It sounds like the engine is missing on one of the cylinders. Was told it was an ignition box or something like that. Any clues or advice. I drive this car for my commute 100 miles a day.

I would start with something small like dry gas or a good fuel system cleaner, then cleaning the throttle body. I had this happen a bit ago, got a can of dry gas and it went away. you might of got bad gas

Our '97 SOHC had a similar experience - the one spark plug wire would come off the plug and we'd get a skip.

Double check all plug wires are properly seated (coil and plug end).

If you can check resistances, check the coil and wires to see if they are all in spec.

can be a faulty wire or plug. see as you accelerate cylinder pressure increases, this makes it a lil harder to make a spark.
If something isnt quite up to snuff (plug/wire) it could miss when your flooring it.

Had same symptom on mine turned out to be a bad plug wire.
