Default Minor mods I think I want to do - need advice

I am thinking about doing some very minor mods to my car. Nothing expensive, nothing major. I was reading one of the sticky threads and I have some questions and need advice.
------------------------------------------------
Q: What engine upgrades should I do to my neon for more power?
A: ..... If you want to go all motor the first mod's are generally; Cold Air Intake (CAI), .... , bigger throttle body (TB), .... If you have an MTX, a cheap upgrade is the neon's ATX TB, which is 52mm as opposed to the 49mm MTX TB and also a DOHC muffler, if you have a SOHC engine.
------------------------------------------------

I have an MTX. I can get an ATX TB super cheap and quick. Is there anything I need to get besides the TB and new gasket? How will this affect my gas mileage? How much more power can I expect with just this change?

What is the big difference between an DOHC muffler and a SOHC muffler? Will it mount up the same or do I need the DOHC holders/etc? If I change it, what performance increase could I expect?

---------------------------------------------------
Q: I don't want to spend alot of money on an intake, can I make my own?
A: Yes, some people use a 3.0L intake tube from mid-90s Chrysler V6, which can be found in a junkyard, attach it to the throttle body and use exhaust pipe to route it to the front or below the battery.
--------------------------------------------------------

Exactly which 3.0L intake tube would I get (Make Model)? I assume that it connects to the top of the TB? Is there any specific sized exhaust pipe to use (2-1/2",3", etc.)? Where would you put the filter in this setup? There are some very flexible high temp plastic pipes one can use, would that be an acceptable substitute to a steel exhaust pipe? Putting aside the cost - can I put an aftermarket CAI on my car without having to move the battery? How much performance increase for just this change?

--------------------------------------------------------
Will second generation seats or SRT-4 seats fit?
A: Yes, all the neons seats are interchangeable and bolt right in without modifications.
-------------------------------------------------------

I want to put a split fold-down rear seat in my base 95 neon. My drivers seat has some wear and minor side splits, and there are some minor stains on my other front seat. If what I read above is true, I can put any seat from any year model neon in my car? Front and back? If true, then Yea! because I have found many JY wreaks for 2nd gens that have good interiors! Can someone confirm/deny the statement made above?

An atx tb will give quicker throttle response. On a stock car, the "gains" will be minimal; around 3whp.

The stock dohc muffler will fit where your stock muffler is located. No modifications require. It is less restrictive than a stock sohc muffler. This is an ideal muffler for an n/a neon.

The 3.0L intake tube can be found on ANY Chrysler/Dodge vehicle with a 3.0L engine. Take the tube to the shop and check various exhaust pipes for proper fir. Believe the 2.5" piping will fit. For an n/a car, the iceman is the best intake for the job.

All neon seats are interchangeable. Have 2G r/t seats in my 97.

Thanks Ghost. I think these all sound like things I want to do. I was looking at eBay and saw a crap load of aftermarket CAI's available, but most of them seemed too cheap (and some quite dubious). Do you recommend any of these (besides the $300 K&N ones of course)?

I think I would rather buy a kit then make one. I am not looking for super cheap, but good quality and effective without bending over and taking one for the team if you get my drift.

As for the seats, awesome! I will be stomping around my local JY this weekend!

Actually, the ATX TB won't give you any HP at all really. Maybe .5-1 at the most but it helps with the throttle response greatly.

Besides the Iceman and 3.0L, there are NO CAI for the Neon. The closest is probably the Kirk CAI but the 3.0L is your best bet. Plus, it costs close to nothing to make. EST: $5-6 for the 3.0L intake, $3-4 for the exhaust piping, $20-50 for the K&N filter (depending on where and which one you get).

Time: maybe 30 min? Take the battery out and do some trimming is the only mod, you need to make on the car.

HP: 1-2.
