Default Gooey Pan Of Sorts?

Hi guys, I'm about to sound like a babbling ninny right now.. but..... here goes... Sorry!
I was changing my side marker lights and I noticed that the black criss-cross-ish lookin thingy under the engine (area)... looks like maybe an oil pan (or pan of sorts)... i have no idea.. had goo (oil?) around the entire perimeter. It does not leak enough to actually drip on the floor (never a drop), but when I stuck my head under there, I knew something wasn't quite right. What is it? Please help me... I cant afford to be ripped off at a repair shop. Im very capable with instruction. Thanks!

Oh, sorry...
Um, I'm not sure if its under the engine or transmission (thats what I mean about Babbling ninny, lol).
My car is automatic.
And I was changing the passenger side light. So its close to the right, left if your looking at the front of the car.

transmission is on drivers side and motor is on passenger side

sounds like oil pan under motor, just a gasket, probibly about 25- 40 bucks and probibly 2 hours labour at a shop.

i'de just buy an oil pan gasket, drain the oil out of the car. take the oil pan off and replace the gasket and put new oil in car, but hey if it aint leaking why bother with the hassle of replacing the gasket? my 95 is still on the original gasket, leaks about 2 drops of oil per night 300,000 km on car with about 250,000 on this motor and i cant be bothered to change the oil pan gasket yet.
