I have a friend with a 1997 MTX Neon. She is having some problems with the car. To preface this, she had the head gasket replaced a few months back and that made the car run better. Now she is experiencing bucking when changing gears and just generally crappyness. You really cannot press the gas down hard or it kind of stalls, the car just drops rpms really low and starts to buck. Mind you, she knows hos to drive a 5 speed, so that is not the problem. She has to really ease through the gears, very gently. She has it in the shop right now, and is basically scared to drive the car. The mechanic just called and said that he can find nothing wrong with the car. Do any of you have some insight on what it may be?

 

when was the last time she changed the fuel filter and plugs and plug wires? might be due for a minor tune up, ide start with a new fuel filter just to rule it out.

 

I would also say do a tune up.
