Default Indy/Howell SOHC Intake Manifold 2.0

if i decide to toss this on my car in the future, is there anyway i'll be able to pass emissions... because it has come to my attention that the EGR can't be put on here (if i remember what i was told correctly)

all thoughts are appreciated

Brent

EGR has to stay on ur car or it runs like crap for the most part.....THE INDY intake is BOLT On so i dont see why you would need to get rid of it and besides you would be throwin a lot of codes about evaporitive emmissions, FILTERS, and such that you would never know what is wrong w/ your engine. And will def. fail emissions scans.

EGR makes no difference in driveability if removed and blocked off. 2000-up Neons don't even have them unless required by the state (California, for example).

Indy is bolt-on? Hah! Show me your install pics, you'd be the first to do it with zero fitment problems.

How would it set a code for the evap purge system? Plenty of vacuum to work properly.
What is the code for FILTERS again? You really lost me there.
A single component that makes it impossible to diagnose an engine? Wow.
If any car has the CEL lit, it will fail an emissions scan. You don't need a $500 manifold to do so.

Who the hell logged into your account, dude? Or was there a sale on peyote this week?

I will never be first in line to defend the famed INDY intake manifold. For 90% of neons, it will hurt performance throught the entire power band. For the same money or less, a box-style manifold works wonderfully.

Best of luck!

EVAPORITIVE CHARCOAL FILTER/or Vapor canister bub no filter code. Didnt mean to confuse ya w/ what I was sayin the EVAP emissions code will come on cuz the VACCUM probs cuz I had em when I had issues on my 1st NEON like three NEONS ago and EGR . I dont have an INDY intake throttle body installed, yet. But if I did I think they would make it easy install like HONDA/edelbrock throttle bodies. DAMN ur quick to jump the gun!! AND that code can be caused by UP To 3 diff problems Gas cap...Vaccum leak...charcoal filter... possibly evap purge solenoid/EGR vac solenoid if I remember right...SO its not impossible to figure out but can leave you questioning. JEEZ!! Lay off the METH speedy and chill out! I know indy isnt the best until you start putin in some heavy mods into your car and ALLPAR seems to agree w/ it so I wouldnt think it was all bad. And what mods would you have to do to fit one? relocate the battery ? Cuz mines in the trunk. wiring isnt an issue and windshieldwasherfluid tube all have been relocated. And how would a stock ECU recognize the absense of the EGR, It wouldnt throw a service engine soon light???? I dont know everything there is to know about automobiles were all learning here but that doesnt mean u jump my *** for a typo. Sorry if I confused you on that post....

Like I said, I won't defend the INDY manifold... overpriced, overhyped.

Allpar is sponsored in part by, you guessed it, Howell Automotive... The Neon performance page was co-written by, you guessed it, Gary Howell. Anthony (the main writer) is a decent enough guy, I'll leave it at that.

Yes, the stock PCM would throw a code for a missing EGR. You can use a resistor, but it will pop up eventually. Mopar takes care of that, as does AF/X and the complete version of Megasquirt (MSnS Extra for Neon).

My stock '95 PCM didn't throw codes for the evap purge stuff even when completely removed, different for '96-up folks I realize.

2-digit codes point in a general direction. 4-digit codes make things easier. OBD-2 scanners are cheap, Autozone is free.

Neons.org should still have a few posts in the archives detailing the INDY manifold install. Some had to grind away parts of the manifold and/or TB to get it to fit. Some had to move the radiator closer to the frame. Not a single install has gone smoothly that I've heard of. I realize custom parts means work, and I'm OK with that. But bolt-on Iceman and "bolt-on" INDY are two different animals...

Never touched meth. Never will.

so what is a box manifold? and where are some other places i could look beyond howell for intakes and other performance parts, i know there is another big one i can't think of, but beyond that...

Modern performance (www.modernperformance.com) is the other major one. Deyeme Racing (www.deyemeracing.com), Vitor's Neon Goodies (www.neongoodies.com), Chris B's Pro Tuning (www.protuning.com), and a few others have some nice neon specific stuff. The classifieds at neons.org will have a ton of stuff as well, usually in great condition and a fair price.

Right now, no one is actively making box manifolds. R/T Ernie on the .org makes a batch every now and then. Blackdog Motorsports made what is considered to be the best, but those only show up on the classifieds once every couple of months. Fast Fabs made them as well, but that business has gone under. twiztedklown1 on the .org was making plastic/fiberglass tubular manifolds (based on the stock plastic manifold) for SOHC's. I have one of the prototypes (all plastic, no fiberglass) on my porch which I'll eventually either send to him for the "upgrade" or take apart and fiddle with it myself (radius the runner inlets, modify the design a little). You could also go to a metal shop and have one made up (all aluminum), but you'd have to figure out the dimensions (for fitment and plenum volume) on your own.

Me and my buddy installed a indy intake manifold on his 98 dohc neon and it was a bitch but we got it dont. We then installed a trottle body. When my buddy ran neon on dino he had a 16whp gain. So it is expensive and hard to do if you dont know much about neons, but i would say it you want clean horespower(reliable) then i would get it. I dont know why people say waste of money? maybe they just dont run on dyno.
