ok... as you might know... my brother and I are working on my 96 sohc neon... but what no one can figure out (me, my brother, or pat).. is what this stupid blue wire does... as you can see in the picture... the blue wire in the picture runs from the ecu to the firewall...

then it goes from the firewall under the dash (actually the moron made it so long it hangs down in front of the clutch and brake, real smart huh?)

anyways.... then the wire runs to the center consel.. where it's cut and spliced with a thin green wire.... and from there... another blue wire runs from the center consel and is spilced to a thin red wire which is connected into the fuse box, to fuse number 7.....

so... any ideas what this does.. i was at he drag strip last night in pitt, and i ran across a kid who ran a neon.. and he said on neons.org... if yu do a search for a blue wire mod... there would be a post.. but i wasn't able to find one through my searches...

any ideas at all for this fun trivia question? thanks for any help ahead of time

Can you tell which pin it goes to on the ecu?

 

i should be able to open the ecu in the next day or two to figure it out.. i'll post pics or description as soon as possible

Ok, i think i have it solved... after getting mad at it, and just starting to yank it out bit by bit.. i think it was fora tach.... the one wire that is in teh center console was spliced into the orange wire which went into the radio... and the blue wire ran back to the ecu... it was spliced into the gray wire, with light blue stripe.... and when i looked up the wire diagram... that said tach... and the orange wire in teh radio is for the interior lights... and to draw power for the tach.. they ran straight into the fure panel.... thats the best i can tell for it... this is half @$$ed as its finest.... anyone ever hear of anything like this... would this even work?

I've seen people do some very unusual, yet scarey things with wiring. I've seen speaker wires set a carpet on fire... My suggestion is just rip out all the "aftermarket" wiring before you need to dial 911 from the roadside. If you need to rewire anything, at least you will know what you are dealing with.... I'm in the process of doing just that with my Satellite, there has to be 400 feet or more of unnecessary wire running thru that car.
