Hi;

Please I need your help to find the problem of my 1st. Gen. Neon 1997. LE

When the car goes beetwen 1500 and 1700 RPM it seems to be in three cilinder.

What I did?:

Check Engine code = 55.
I Replaced Spark plugs & cables.
I Replaced fuel filter.
I Replaced camshaft sensor.
I Cleaned all injectors.
ODBII Scanned --> all normal.

Thanks a lot.

What spark plugs, what cables? (brands, specifics...)

Did you replace the regulator along with the filter (Only the '95 has an external filter that requires periodic replacement)? Have you checked fuel pressure at the fuel rail?

Miles on the car? Timing belt/water pump/tensioner parts done by 105k miles (80-90k recommended)? Updated MLS head gasket installed?

I've had the timing belt skip a tooth with no code, similar hiccups. Also had a TPS grounding out causing the same thing, not always with a code. The crankshaft position sensor is another likely culprit, but I've never run into problems with mine. Plugged cat, bad O2 sensor(s), coolant temp sensor - all could be causing issues with or without codes.

spark plugs--> Bosch. called Duraterm-Chromium

I replaced just the external filter, my '97 has one. 45000Km.
I have checked fuel pressure at the fuel rail. it´s ok.

No updates (the car is original)

I will check the timing belt, first.

thanks a lot.

Try some different spark plugs. Bosch spark plugs don't seem to do anything but cause problems for neons.

The problem did exist before I changed the spark plugs.
