Default 98 Gas Filler Neck Replace

I recently purchased a replacement gas filler neck for my 98 neon (old one rusted out), and I need to find a replacement for the gas tank vent tube connector. Does anyone have any Mopar part numbers (so that I might cross-reference), or any aftermarket suppliers to fill the ~1.5" hole that is in the side of my new filler neck?

I did a bit more internet research, but still no luck. I did however find this pic to help describe what I'm looking for... (Pic is not mine, and I've cited the original source)

Weird - just discovered a similar issue on my 98. It looks like the filler tube is holding together, but rust has eaten a tiny seam at the top of the neck and another little crack right above the hole you're asking about.

I found the part you're looking for - the vapor valve - and it's a cheap fix.

Am hoping I won't need to shell out another $100 for an aftermarket filler tube and the added time in the sweltering garage... but it seems like a problem many have on their 1st gens and is worth fixing for safety/emissions reasons I suppose.

Let us know how your re-install goes. (Am curious as to what I'm in for should I need to do mine)

Sweet! Thanks for your reply!

I posted something similar on the neons.org site (here: http://forums.neons.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=379718 ) and got some replies there... I also did manage to dig out the old valve, and found the grommet part number F6TC-9B076-AA. I googled this and found it is normally paired up with a Ford/Motorcraft Part Number E7DZ-9B593-A if you can't find the Mopar part handy.

It ended up looking a lot worse than it really was, the part was encrusted with grime, dirt, and rust, but it manged to clean up and was reusable after about an hour's worth of scrubbing/prying/swearing. I made sure there was no tears/cracks in the grommet, and popped this in the new tube, followed by the OE valve, everything turned out pretty good!

Just to be safe on this one I used a but of the rubberized undercoating on the new filler tube pipe just to inhibit the rust from forming right away.

I also had to replace the 1.75" fuel filler hose to the tank. I was able to find this in bulk at my local Napa. They could special order the molded pre-bent tube if I needed it, but it's only ~10 degree bend with a ~4 inch radius (~from memory), so a straight tube is fine.

Advance Auto also had it, but in pre-packed, 3ft sections for about $40 (!), considering you only need about 8 inches, this is excessive IMO.

Be sure to get the fuel-rated hose, not radiator hose.
