Default 2.0 sohc (automatic transmission issues)

ok, so i have 1996 dodge neon, it has the sohc 2.0, with the automatic transmission. right after i did my motor swap, (required due to a spun rod berring). my overdrive in my neon stopped working, not sure why. we hooked the wiring harness back up correctly and everything, but it kicks in every once and a while. But since it hasn't been working, all my car does is suck gas and burn oil.. I was told it was an overdrive lockup by my automotive instructor, but it kicks in every once and a while. So i was then told that the tranny fluid might be dirty, so i checked it and it was. So i replaced the transmission fluid, the transmission pan gasket, and the transmission filter. That didnt help. So then i was told it could be my overdrive solonoid. But if its that where is it located in the transmission and how hard is it to replace?? i need answers so please respond asap.

There is no overdrive gear on the auto transmission. There is a lockup torque converter that will engage at highway speeds to save on gas.

I would double check your connections and inspect the wiring. Just because it's hooked up doesn't mean the wiring isn't frayed or shorting out on something.

correct, no overdrive on gen 1 neons. lockup solenoid only in drive at speed.

burning oil has nothing to do with your transmission. seems like replacement engine is bad if you're burning oil

the engine not going into the highway gear is causing my neon to run at higher rpms. how does that not burn oil?

TCC selenoid. and its in the trans. check your plug behind dipstick tube. if tcc plug is loose, that could be the cause. if you drop the trans pan, the tcc is towards the front of trans
