Changing timing belt and water pump, What else to do?
Hi all,
I have 135+k on my sohc Neon, I bought it with 95k miles, and I don't know if the timing belt had been changed.
I lent the car to one of my wifes friends who needed transport, so after years of never overheating, she has it a week, and it overheats. I haven't looked at it yet, but somebody who allegedly knows what their talking about thinks it's the waterpump, and apparently the timing belt didn't appear to be in good shape.
So the cars going to get a new belt and waterpump.
As it's such and extensive job, is it worth changing the camshaft and mainshaft seals? Also as the hydraulic tensioner is such an expensive part, should that be changed as well? I wouild assume the tensioner wheel would need to be changed.
Any advice is much appreciated
Thanks Dave

first thing i would do since it was overheated and the milage, is do the headgasket. you already have the belt off so spend another hour and get the head off. you probably dont wanna do all that work for the water pump, and 2 months down the road the headgasket goes.
