RE: Code Readers....??
yep, its free, its your key. turn ignition on, off, on, off, on and leave on and then count the number of times check engine light flashes, 12 is the start code and 55 is the end code. do not start car when checking codes just turn ignition to accessory. code 12 is blink long pause blink blink long pause. if you have codes coming up all you have to do is post the code number here and one of the site members will tell you what the code means.

A true scanner? Got a laptop or PDA? If not, you can pick up either on e-bay for under $100 that will work fine.
You can get the scantool.net hardware for $65 or so. There's plenty of good software for free. Digimoto's software has a few nifty extras, but it's not really worth the extra money. Downside is, you can only use it on one protocol (ISO), and it doesn't support CAN bus protocol (like the new Mazda RX-8 or Mazda 3...). So if you only plan on using it on one car, it's great. This is what I used (stolen).
www.obd-2.com has a nice setup as well. Great support also, according to the dozen or so people I know that use it. Multiple protocols available, supports CAN, etc. This is what I'll be buying next.
Best of luck!

if you have teh OBDII connector in the car you can use the tool almost definitely. There are many different choices but the the more you spend the more you get. Cause as you move up the list you get also PID or parameter ID's which mean you can look at Fuel Trim live O2 info etc. etc. etc.

All Neons have the OBD-2 port, even the 1994.5 special release of ACR's. All are perfectly cabable of using a scan tool. The only thing I've found that is "not compliant" is the stock PCM won't ever throw a code for evap/purge, and the Mopar PCM won't throw a code for a missing downstream O2 sensor. Other than that, everything is the same as the 1996-1999 versions.

Thanks for the help. I am getting a code 25. My repair manual says it is a "Idal Air Control (IAC) valve circuits. A shorted condition detected in one or more of the IAC valve circuits.Or a vacume leak is detected." Could this have anything to do with my Heater Blower Motor? I just got my Neon back on the road after replacing the Heater Blower Motor a few days earlier.
