SOHC to a DOHC
ok well ive decided im going to switch from a 2.0 L SOHC standard to a 2.0 L DOHC standard there extremly rare around here and i was told i had to order one from the states if i wanted 2 get one but i finnaly found one its in a 98 neon 2 door and i think im buying the whole car *its cheeper then buying everything seperate somehow * what am i looking for to switch it over i know the engin , tranny, wiering harness, and the computer but do i have 2 switch over the suspension or anything elese i am unaware of ?? and what whould the differnce be i was told that the SOHC is 135 HP and the DOHC is 150 HP is that true ???? thanks
You can keep the SOHC manual tranny. The DOHC sould have a closer gear ratio though, so it's worth looking into. You'll get better acceleration with the close ratio tranny (3.94 final drive), but tend to get worse gas mileage, particularly if it's the perf "A" tranny (shorter 5th gear).
You can keep the suspension, but check to see if the donor car has adjustable struts first. You can swap over sway bars/parts as well if they're better than what you currently have.
The 1995 SOHC is 132HP, the 1996-up SOHC are actually 128 HP. The DOHC's were rated at 150HP, but could easily range from 140ish to a little over 150 depending on how well the cams were set at the factory.
Best of luck!
