Default auto tranny prob/question

Hey people, im new to this site. my daughters 97 neon is leaking tranny fluid (3speed auto). quite abit actually. it is coming from up in between the motor n tranny.

is it safe to say its prolly the input shaft seal thats leaking? or could there be another component thats leaking?

i read somewhere that if its a bad front pump, it would leak from same area, and give the impression that its a bad seal.

im very handy/mechanically inclined so i have NO prob doing the job, im just trying to gain as much knowledge or info before i go into it.

thanks in advance, tony g.

It is most likely the seal but either way, you have to remove the tranny to find/fix it, so there you go.

Question

The front pump seal, is that a hard fix? i know replacing seals are fairly easy, imean, once you've gained access to'em that is!

You could check facs here or buy a haynes manual at the Zone. It will get you there, not the best, but it will help you and better than waiting for responses. I always take a lot of pictures as you I tear down, better than memory when you get some delay thrown in on you.
