Two problems
On my 1998 DOHC, what is the best way to extract the instrument cluster to repair the circuit board? And what type of solder would you use on the connections? That's problem number 1!
Problem #2: The CEL keeps coming on and I did the check of the codes that are on it now, one is 12, and then 42, but here is the stumper. The next code makes no sense, and I read it 3 times, so I am not seeing things. It came up 7 flashes, pause, then 2 flashes, which would be 72 but no list I have seen shows a 72! What could it be for? Two weeks ago I put in NGK G-Power platinum plugs and a new valve cover gasket and it improved immensely, but now with these codes it's running like crap again.
Can someone help me out?
Thanks in advance!

a 98 neon should have obd 2 connection, take it to a parts store that reads codes for free and see what it comes out as... the light flash trick can get tricky, some cars you cant really tell when it pauses, because the pause is too short
First of all, read the thread about not using Platinum plugs in Neons. Because the Neon is a wasted spark system, the platinum plugs just don't hold up for very long and have been known to create the kind of misfires you are reporting.
Believe it or not, just get the plain jane cheap Champion copper plus resistor plugs. They were designed to use that type of plug and really work well with them. I like the NGK plugs too, but again, just the cheap copper ones.
