Exclamation Performace timing with stock cam gears

Ok first things first I have a 98 dohc on a sohc block. I want to try to play with valve timing a little to get some better performance out of the motor. My first issue is can I even touch my valve timing since this setup makes the motor an interference engine? If I can has anyone tuned theirs and what is the optimum advance/retard for each cam? Also if you have a simple way to do ot with the stock cam gears that would be extremely helpful as well. Thanks in advance!

The neon is an interference engine period. Swapping heads or blocks, don't matter. You really should use aftermarket can gears and/or cams to advance timing. If you want to do it cheaply, add a Mopar Performance PCM to advance the timing.

Well the mopar pcm will advance the ignition timing, but i'm trying to work with physically advancing or retarding the valve timing. I would get the adjustable cam gears but i'm doing some valve work soon and dont have the cash for them. I was just looking to tinker while I had it opened.
