Default 95 Neon Sport dying!!

I have a 95 Neon Sport, had it about 2 months. High mileage (about 160 k) Been a great car so far seeing as how it gets driven about 50 miles nightly as I am a delivery driver. The other night it randomly died on me 2 times, then the check engine light came on. I drove it home, parked it and got my parents truck to finish work that night. Now it will start and runs just fine while the RPM's are over 1000 (BTW it is an automatic) but when it is at an idle it likes to sputter out and die. The check engine light went off, but it's still having a really hard time at idle... I have an appointment with a mechanic on Monday, but if there is anything I can try to save me a ton of money I am all ears!!! Please help!!!

Look in the FAQs on how to do the key dance to read the codes. Post the codes, then we can help more.

sounds like it could be the fuel pump or fuel filter clogged up..my car was the fuel pump but started with the easiest thing first which was the filter but found out did same thing and it was the fuel pump..keep us updated

Check the IAC (idle air control) and the TPS (throttle position sensor). Both are located on the throttle body which is on the car front side of the engine underneath the black plastic pipe coming off the air filter.

As das said, you do the key dance, you will probably see error codes that may indicate one or the other if it is going/gone bad.

I had to replace both of mine - first the TPS, then the IAC when my car starting doing the same thing. They are not hard to replace and not very expensive either.
