So we been on the hunt to find the wife a car and she has come to find a 98 neon that she likes.. While i have not looked it over (yet) the guy selling it says it does need a timingbelt and a water pump but, other than that runs good.. I figure i can handle that as i been working on cars all my life mostly. Question that i do have is what is the common tranny in the 98?? is it a manual or a auto?

 

My 98 is manual I've seen more manual than automatic but that's just what I've seen I'm not sure which one is over all most common

 

I think autos are more common. Lazy people of the world don't like to shift. You also want to change the idler pulley along with the timing belt and water pump.
