I have a 98 dodge neon and the mechanical sunroof seems to be stuck on the driver side front corner.
When it tries to open as usual it seems like it tries to go sideways and binds..... and it won't close all the way anymore

Any ideas?

 

silicone spray if its just hanging will probally help. If its broken or misaligned, you are gonna have to take it apart and start looking for whats wrong or get a new one.

 

Left side rail is broken where the cable attaches to it. I just broke my second one last night, this is getting old fast, 2 rails in less than 1 year. This sux for a car that only sees summer driving of about 1,000 miles a year


You can check it easily,
1) remove the 6 torx screws securing the glass
2) remove the glass
3) remove the 2 torx screws securing the "J"shaped cable guide in the front left corner
4) inspect the rail and cable.
5 reverse proceedure to reinstall glass DON"T OVERTIGHTEN THE SCREWS, they strip easily!!!!just snug them down. ( dont worry about alighment till you have the rails fixed, you shouldn't be trying to open it now anyway)

You will need a new one, here is the part # Sunroof guide rail (left) ~ 5018693AA

 

Hey man i have the same **** all i did was give it a lil puch and she went but when it comes back in gets half way and starts making grinding noises!
So i dunno what the peace of ****s problem is!

 

hey,took off my sunroof and found the clicking was because the left cable was gone
anyone know where i can find a how to on replacing it, or a parts page for the cable?

This is a very common neon problem... it happens to 99% of neons... weather you use your sunroof often or not... they do not make the rails no more however there is a kit on ebay for a bout 108 shipped that will perminately fix the neon sunroof...

It is more common to find a neon with a broken sunroof then one that works... hell its a big deal if your sunroof works...
