Default tire size conundrum

What is the widest tire i can fit on a stock 14 inch rim. I wS lookin at 195/60/14 can i go bigger?

Depends on the rim width. That will determine how big of tire you can go. Then you google "tire size difference calculator" and you can figure out in inches how much wider the tire will be over the stock one, then you go measure on the car to see if it will fit without hitting the strut. You could always get spacers also.

well being as i cant dismount my rim at home and measure does anyone have the specs of how wide the base steely was? its a 14 incher.

Dont have time to google it now but it should be a 6" rim. Use this: http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.dos to find section width and height differences compared to stock. Some calculators will tell you the width the rims needs to be. I think you will run out of strut clearance before you run out of rim. 185-65-15 should be stock size. If you look up tires for the car at online tire places, they usually offer different size tires that fit the car as other options.

i saw people running a 195/60/14 at a few autocross events. im going for new tires tmrw and will see if i can cram on some 205/60/14s on a steely to keep it stock looking with the use of small spacers found at any parts store.
