Default do I have a bad fuel pump or somthin else?

it's a 95 neon 5 speed. A week ago it ran great. it will start and idle perfectly but as soon as you press the gas it "blub, blub, blubs" like a motorcycle with the choke left on. If you let off the gas it goes back to idle. I replaced the fuel filter and it was no better. If you pump the peddle quickly you can achieve the higher RPM's. There is no smoke coming out and the oil is clear and clean. There is the oft mentioned oil in the spark plug tube in one of the cylinders but it looks like it has been there for a while. There is no miss at idle and no dead plugs. The head was redone a year ago. Also, I did the ignition thing to check codes and got a 51 lean fuel error. Please help I am driving my old Dakota truck at 12 mpg and my neon got 32mpg. Going broke!

Sounds like the pump is a definite possibility. See if you can get your hands on a pressure guage it should be about 49psi. Everyone says you can't buy the pump seperately from the sending unit but this isn't entirely true. Someone, somewhere sells the bloody things and they're pretty easy to swap out of the sender (no soldering or such). However I have no clue who has them and I don't think it's even a retailer, but a parts wholesaler and it's sold merely by part number not application. If you do need one really do some digging, someone can get you the pump alone. Hopefully someone here knows.

Howell Automotive sells the Walbro 255 lph Walbro pump for $110 or so and is a direct swap. Cheaper than any stock pump I've found, with or without the sender.

Best of luck!
