Default 1996 Dodge Neon

I am racing a 96 Neon on a half mile asphalt oval track, it seems like I am needing more gear off of the corner it is a standard shift 5 speed tranny and I am running in 3rd gear. I am needing to know how to check what gear is in this tranny maybe by numbers and if there is anywhere I could buy a lower final drive gear? This car is a DOHC motor

https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...rpm-chart.html

if the car is not and r/t then more then likely you have the regular SOHC transmission. Which has "taller" gearing for better gas mileage on the highway. The shorter geared tranny will be found in 98-99 neon r/ts.

Have you considered different size rims or tires to help with the gearing also? Maybe a taller rev limiter?

Default Question about first gen Neon

I am needing to know about my 1996 2.0 DOHC Neon I am wondering why on the back of the cam gears they have 2.4 and on the front 2.0 is the 2.4 motor have more torque and is it possible to turn the cam gears the other way to give my engine more torque will it hurt the horse power any by doing this?

No, you cant. If its from an r/t then it should have the lower geared tranny. Are you trying to keep the car in second or trying to get higher in the rpms in 3rd?

The track is big enough that I have to run 3rd. I wanted to thank you for all of your help that you have given me. This Friday night is our first race and I hope that everything goes my way
