Default Neon Pinging

Hello there - I have a '98 Neon that is pinging pretty badly. It doens't seem to affect the acceleration or the MPG. It's pinging now more than it use to. I just had the timing belt replaced (100K) and just recently I installed new plugs and plug tubes. I have tride a higher octane gas but that didn't help. I am thinking it might still be a plug issue. Can someone give me the exact # of the OEM plug to try ? any other insight would be appreciated as well. Thanks, mh[&:]

All neons have a cold idle tick. You can still hear it when its warm too. If its real bad it is probally something inside the motor like you valves.

Plain copper plugs work the best. Any decent parts store should be able to verify the correct part.

NGK - BKR6E
Champion - RC9YC
Bosch - FR8DC

Never put platinum plugs in your neon, or any other DIS car for that matter. And stick with stock, Mopar, MSD, or Magnecor wires.

Engine pinging can also be caused by large amounts of buildup in the cylinders (EGR system) forming hot spots. A can of Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner or the new Seafoam stuff would help there, just change the oil immediately afterwards...

Best of luck!
