Default code 42

ok i know there is a post on this allready but i was hoping with more info the way my 96 is running, someone might know more of what is going on.
the car ran fine for about 30-35 miles(in heay rain) then started to stall out at idle, then the engine light came on about 15 miles later, now(the following day) it runnins in surges in all gears(is a 5 speed SOHC) and dose not want to stay running, allmost feels like its getting short shots of fuel rather than a smouth steady feed. any help or ideas would help greatly as my other car is in the shop, and i need this to go see my kid in the hospital and get to work. Thanx in advance

:after thought: i tryed the relay thing with the fan relay as the horn is strangly missing, but no change

Have you reset the PCM after swapping relays? If the PCM stores a code that'll put it in limp home mode, it'll stay there...

Since the horn relay is missing, try testing the remaining relays in that slot, honk to make sure it works. That code could also be for the fuel pump relay, which could explain a lot...

Best of luck!

disconnect the neg batt. termanial for about 10-15min, or i believe its the interior light fuse in the fuse box under the hood, its the one in that little holder thing, i think if you pull that for about 10 min it clears it as well. if its not that fuse then one of these guys on here should know which one it is.

It's the fuel pump fuse, should be the only one that's 20 amps.
