Default MOPAR ECU

Im considering buying a Mopar Performance ECU for my 95 Manual Highline SOHC. First question is if anyone has this new computer does it improve performance, and if so how much? Second If anyone can offer me one for cheaper than 80 dollars? Id rather have the MOPAR, but if there is a cheaper and better brand im all ears. Also is putting in an ECU as simple as plug in and go, or more technical. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes the computers will increase the performance and you'll also have to use premium gas.

I thought every computer has to be programmed for the exact car by submitting the VIN#. Wouldn't u be better off buying one from the dealer than an individual?

You don't have to use premium unless you get the race PCM for the 1st gen.

The 1st gens don't have te vin# on the 1st gens.

Where are you getting a Mopar PCM for $80 is my question?

There's only one Mopar PCM... not a seperate "Street" and "Race" like AFX. The Mopar PCM comes with 2 brand new stickers that say "92 Octane Unleaded Required" - one for your instrument cluster, one for your gas door. And the AFX requires 92 octane ("street/strip") or 93 octane ("race") up to 4,000 feet, at least that's what the description says on Howell's website. Above that, your still better off using the highest you can get (91 octane here in ABQ).

Like mentioned, you don't need the VIN flashed in on 1st gens.

$80 is a heck of a price. Just make sure it is made for a '95. No other year will work. I paid $150 used.

Gains are not huge. You really don't get much in the way of extra peak HP. But the torque curve is broader. Once you have it in for a while, try swapping back to stock, that's when you'll notice the difference...

It's plug and play. I can swap it out in the time it takes to fill up the car...

Best of luck!
