Default Reading Trouble codes

When checking trouble codes I know that you turn the key to the on position(without starting) 3 times and your check engine light will give you a series of codes. But in the on position should I at least see the check engine light come on, even if there is no codes present. Im not seeing the engine light, but I can see the others. Maybe the check engine light is burned out? Any suggestions?

If you take the key to the "on" position once, the light should com on for a second or so. if it isn't, then the light bulb is probably burnt out. You can remove the instrument cluster fairly easily and swap out one of the bulbs (hazard flasher, for example). If it still isn't lighting up, then there may be an issue with the wiring going into the instrument cluster.

Best of luck!

Hey Radar, I opened the i/p cluster and swapped out the bulbs. Actually there wasnt even a bulb in the cel.(Ill make sure to put 1 in before I put it back together). I got 3 codes--12, 21, and 43. Im not to worried about the code 12 as I ran the battery dead awhile ago, but do you think that(maybe) the code 43(misfire in 1 or more cylinders) may be a result of the code 21(o2 sensor-up or downstream)?

I've gotten code 43 one time when my I needed wires and I punched it getting on the highway and backfired , I think anything that causes a missfire can cause a code 43. If your getting code 21 and have a lot of miles on your sensors I would replace them both at the same time. when mine went I did the easy one first which i think was the upstream and a month later I had to do the other one anyway. I think I needed a lift for the downstream. it's been a few years so I don't rember for sure.

Misfire usually has to do with plugs, wires, or coilpack.
