Default Used turbo

What i was wondering is if anyone knows where to get used turbos. I have about 1700 and would really like to turbo charge my r/t but i have no idea where to look besides ebay. Perhaps i should continue to save.

Also, how much cheeper are turbokits if u were to buy identical parts piece by piece?

haha....not too cheap my friend...unless you live in california where they are heavily stocked on the performance line for neons or you go directly to HAHN or Chill Factory...For each and every piece you order its goin to cost you in shipping...A whole turbo kit will cost you anywhere from $2,250 -$3,250 for the Neons for a good moderate kit made to suffice w/ the stock applications. You only need about 600 Dollars more and you can get the complete Turbocharging kit made to Bolt up to your vehicle...OR you can buy INTERNALs and CUSTOM build a kit for about what you have. Using used turbo from a Junkyard like the 16g/ SUPER or T25 or Even a 20G off of a Mitsubishi Eclipse/ 3000GT or what have you. The only problem w/ doing this is finding the turbo that isnt heavily abused. YEAH...right. Odds are if it was a collision factor it might be fine but you never know until you get it on a Vice to have someone possibly rebuild. Its all in who you know at that point. If you want to go EBAY that is 2nd best. I say 2nd b/c usually it involves messing w/ sources no one knows of and parts that you may not need or possibly not the right part (PERIOD). Save the hassle and just buy your kit at howell or go w/ the Chillfactory and bolt it up for some quick performance gains.

BTW I am custom building my kit but am Buying all internals and Performance PCM before I even remotely start it. Not everyone is going to do the same, nor should they try to...if there is an easier means to do it all...Im for sure its w/ the kit. But I am a stingy bastard when it comes to speed...ill do it cheapest but I might not like it or it might cease to be anything but easy. Installing my turbo will give headaches (just an early Prediction) good luck on your finds

www.car-parts.com is a salvage yard database, but you need to know what you are looking for, and make sure you talk to real people before placing an order...

If you have to ask basic questions about a DIY turbo setup, don't do it... "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell should be top on your reading list. Do you know how much power you wanted to make? Do you know which turbos are best suited for your goals? Have you ever seen a turbo map? Have you decided how you are going to manage your fuel setup? Figured out how to keep the MAP from freaking out yet? Know where you are running your oil lines? If you start buying parts without a final plan, you're going to end up spending a lot more money than you intended...

You may be better prepared than most, but it comes across like you're looking for a turbo to slap on your car for more power like they were a set of rims or something... It's not rocket surgery, but it does take some planning to do right.

Best of luck!

according to this forum, the best way to go is hahn or chill factory. i bought a cheap used turbo online from spooled motorsports and they sent it to me with broken pipes and the o2 housing was so fuked up!! if youre going to make your own turbo kit then you should try www.full-race.com they have a lot of turbos and theyre not too expensive. good luck on that man. i think the best way to go is a kit though. im doing the same thing as highrevr. im getting all these parts and custom making my turbo. i havent seen the end results but i think i shouldve gone with a kit. i started off with the same amount as you and still dont have all my parts in. i suggest saving up for a turbo kit.

DONT RISK BUYING A USED TURBO. ITS NOT WORTH IT MAN!!!!! IM REGRETTING IT NOW.....

You will also need some way for increased fuel, intercooler if you want the motor to last, that alone is another $1000

Awwww, your killing my dreams!! Ok..it looks like a hahn racecraft kit is the way to go, and im assuming stage 2 is basically the minimum to get. I think ill have to settle for smaller upgrades like cams, cam gears, performance chip and anything else that gets me 10 hp a pop, any quick recommendations?

CAMS-CRANE #14 For turbo or #16 and #18 for stockers, Gears-Not necessary more flashy then anything, you can buy later, Performance chip-Hell No Performance ECU $350.00 Prebuilt by megasquirt. 60 mm Throttle body, Fuel Rail, Magnecor plug wires, Howell auto sells only coil pack better then stock, NGK v-power or accel u groove (not platinums), Long tube like pace setter or Similar TT?, Short tube is fine I use the AIRMASS by magnaflow w/ muffler and piping, Intake manifold by indy or extrude Hone on modern performance...If I were you Id still go turbo b/c the most these add-ons will possibly see is 225 HP until you start doin the P and P or performance head...

hmm, ok. Thats a good start. The way i see it, i can get all or most of that done and then upgrade to turbo. If i buy the turbo cam and dont use a turbo, will that be ok? It would be nice to have it on there incase i do buy the turbo.

Edit: What do u mean by Cams-Crane, i mean could u give me some brands or something, and i dont know what u mean by the numbers either. Ill keep searchin in the mean time for it.

Don't spend your money on things that aren't going to help the turbo setup, particularly things you'll have to sell in order to use your turbo setup... Header probably being the biggest one.

Honestly, just start saving up for the turbo kit. The piddly little HP gains you get from $100 bolt-ons only makes it that much longer until you get the car. Set a goal date and stick to it. Stop buying those candy bars and sodas at work. Cut back on smoking. Wait for the movie to come out on DVD and have a friend burn it for you... er.. I mean rent it... . Whatever it takes to save up so you can get it in and ready by the time the tracks open up next spring, if possible. Once you've got the turbo in, then worry about whether or not the $100 UDP is worth a couple of ponies, $200 for a cam that'll give you more power once you upgrade the internals, etc. The other bolt-on's are nice and all, but you can make 200+ HP with just the intercooled turbo kit, which is the 30% increase in power you were hoping for, and your stock internals aren't going to handle much more than 225 HP anyways.

Even after you get the turbo in, you might want to start saving up for another "big money" project that will make a heck of a difference on your car - a true coilover setup. $1000 or so for a nice one for a 1st gen, $1200 or so for 2nd gens (you haven't really specified which one you have...).
