Default Oil in plug holes???

I changed my plugs today, and the holes they fit down into had a fair amount of oil in them. I'm still new to this neon / little car thing..... Is this a common problem, is it supposed to be like this, or do I have somethin I need to fix?

Thanks - Matt

if you have oil in the holes and on the plugs your rings need to be changed, its probably smoking also when you are driving... so when you get chance you may want to handle that.

If you have oil in your plug holes and you drive a SOHC Neon, you probably have oil leaking in from around the spark plug tube seals. You can remove the valve cover and take a look at the seals that connect the tubes to the valve cover. They tend to work themselves loose after a while and it doesn't take any effort to get oil in there... You can use loctite or some sort of high-temp gasket maker to reattach everything and that should fix it.

You'd have to have the spark plug threads damaged in order to get oil in there from the cylinders...

Best of luck!

Get a new valve cover gasket. The seals around the holes break from heat cycling and leak. That should fix your problem.

Radar and Gary, I think you hit the nail on the head, now that I look a little closer, seems to be a gap around where there should be a seal. Now I know why I 've been using a little bit of oil. Thanks a bunch guys.
