Default downshifting...pop...clutch pedal has NO pressure

ok what just happened.....i was driving down the road and had to downshift into 3rd to pass....heard a pop...then it wouldnt go into gear...clutch pedal is easy as hell to push down...it had absolutely ZERO resistance...now im really screwed...it wont go into any gear. Did i just blow my clutch or is it something with the tranny? (please say clutch)

I would say its the clutch, but either way start taking the transmission out and looking around. How many miles on the car?

Maybe, but with the cable disconnected or broken the pedal would not return to the top. I have had many clutch problems with my neon and every time the pedal had some resistance, but not much. I would almost bet its the clutch.

HAHA that actually happened to me just a couple months ago and thought it was the cable. Well like casper said it came back up and it ended up being the clutch had to be replaced.

Mine was the cable, broke off at the tranny end. Spent 2 hours in subzero temperatures in my driveway splitting the tranny from the block to get the parts out of the bellhousing... talk about suck... At least it wasn't running when it happened.

If the cable is "falling off", don't bandaid it with spacers. The self-adjusting mechanism isn't working properly. All it should take is pulling on the cable away from the firewall for a few clicks and it will tighten right up. Best thing would be to replace the cable, which is only $20 or so at the dealership.

Best of luck!
