Default heater problem

hi i have a 1998 dodge neon i am having a problem with my heaters.I have plenty of heat but when i try to change it from defog to floor or anything other than windo it does not change it stays up on the window.I looked in the dash to where the lever moves to change and it moves as if its working but does not change can anyone tell me how this works or where the cable to move the doors on the heater and how a person can get at the place where the connector is hooked on the heater thanks

To fix that it sounds like you have a broken cable somewhere and your gonna have to take apart the dash to access it.

the cable runs from the dash **** and where does it go i follow it down behind the heater does it connect outside or under the dash thanks

I would remove the control asembly and see if the cable moves freely before taking the rest of the dash apart to get to the other end of the cable.
If it doesnt move i would then look at the dampers and the duct as the cable is not really a cable but a solid rod and not likely to break.
The dampers that it moves however can become blocked (had a dam mouse house in mine once).
Give it a try and see.

acually got the heater problem fixed was at a junkyard friday picking up a new trunk lock and asked the young guy there if he had any neons withe dash out and he showed me a couple and its a breeze to get the top of the dash off and you can see the other end of the cable perfect and low and behold the cable was off the **** that moves the door put it back on and works perfect so thanks to all who helped
