Where can I get a raced prepared neon?
Ok I've checked everywhere "I" could think of and I cant find any gen 1 racing neons for sale. Does anyone have link? I'm looking for an ACR or R/T model. I used to have a 98 R/t and loved that thing but it was my wife's daily driver. I got her a Durango and we gave away the neon to a niece. (I know dumest thing I've ever done. She sold it 2 months later because she didnt want a stick shift) [:@]. I got a 97 viper GTS and the think scares the hell out of me, so I want to take a neon and practice ALOT on the track before I take the viper out and make an *** of myself. I asked my mechanic and he said to get a 1st gen neon because they are cheap and they are good for the track.. Any sugguestions?
Definitely look for an ACR coupe, that's a competition car. The R/T is a bling package trying to be a sports car in comparison. If you're just going to use it for practice, you don't really need to build it up. Maybe Mopar springs ($125 for the set), maybe a Mopar rear bar (under $150 used). Work on the driver more than the car...
Any 5-speed Neon will do fine though. You can always throw on a set of K-Sport complete coilovers, plus the sways. Finding one already built specifically for autocross is going to be tough though. Might want to check the classifieds on forums that are more dedicated to just Neons. Most of the "built" Neons that turn up on ebay are half-assed, in my opinion. Most non-enthusiasts wouldn't know if theirs was an ACR if it was stamped and painted all over the car... Ditto for autotrader.com, etc. First clue is the fog light bumper with no fogs. 1996-1997 ACR couples will have "S22Y" in the VIN, 1995, and 1998-1999 ACR coupes will have "S42Y", which are often labeled as "Sports" (dealer stick-on stuff) when they are really not...
Here's one: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...=&cardist=1546
Best of luck!
