Misfiring and Strange code thing
ok I just purchased my first neon about a month ago.
I had a weak alternator, changed it.
I had a shorted starter. Replaced it
I had a plugged cat converter, cut it out replaced with straight pipe.
I left in the down stream o2
Now I'm getting some random misfires. these misfires were registering before the cat cut out. But now I can really feel them.
only when at idle. Touch the throttle and it goes away.
Sometimes if I'm stopped and then I suddenly accelerate it will stumble like it is real lean for about 50 feet then go normal.
I checked the EGR valve and sensor - all is well (Does the same with vacuum tube on or off)
New champion plugs
while running i sprayed the wires and coil down with lots of water. Hoped this would show bad wires or coil. No Change.
...
Part 2 of the continuing SAGA of the neon
My error codes
Blinks as follows - 12, 43, 43, 42, 21, 55
I know what all the codes mean. Why could there be two 43s.
I also have tried to reset the computer. I can't seem to get it to reset.
I tried many times to disconnect the battery terminal pos and neg
I also tried pulling the fuel pump fuse for more than 30 seconds
No luck so far.
I had to replace the down stream O2 sensor for the error 21 but it has not gone away.
Do I need to reset the computer to get rid of the 21?
Could my upstream O2 sensor be causing all of this.

I didn't look at the code number before we reset it, but mine was throwing a cyl 2 misfire. Replacing plug wires seemed to fix it, did the plugs before that.
Mine still does the same thing at idle, runs rough. When I take off, no issues. Hopefully someone can comment here?
My check engine light did come back on while going uphill with the AC on the other day. I haven't had a chance for AutoZone to scan it for me but I hope it is something other than a cyl 2 misfire again. Not sure what to replace after doing wires and plugs?

The two 43 codes just means it saw it twice. Inspect your coil pack for cracks and replac your plug wires. The O2 could cause the problems you are experiencing also.
