Low compression after head replacement
I have a 98 Dodge Neon R/T DOHC. I put it in the shop to check the timing because I kept getting a check engine code saying the car was out of time. The mechanic said the car was in time but the valves may be bent and so he sent my head off to be checked. They then said my valves were not bent, but they were very worn so they replaced my head with a new one. Then he tried to start my car, the compression was only about 30 in each cylinder. So he then replaced my lifters and still have the same problem. The mechanic thinks my compression rings may be bent and he wants to just replace my whole engine. He also said the car acts like it may be out of time but he swears it is in time. He has had my car in the shop for 3 months and everytime I talk to him, he comes up with something else wrong. I am now about fed up with this mechanic. He says he has already put in $300 in replacement parts on my engine. What else could be causing this problem and are there any suggestions as to what may be wrong or how to fix this problem? Thank-you.
