reverse lights
does anyone knoe where this so called "switch" is on the automaitc? theres gotta be something in the car that triggers the reverse lights to come on. this will drive me insane!!
as 95NeonJs stated, the auto's don't have a switch, try the socket like others have suggested or even the shifter cables, or could possibly have something to do with the pedal, maybe when you press in the brake pedal there is a switch down there somewhere not fully being engaged, im not really sure though but, it wouldn't hurt to check it out hope some of that was helpfull and good luck !!
There has got to be a switch somewhere in the line of things to tell the reverse lights "Hey, we are in reverse, turn on" It may not be in the shifter set-up itself but perhaps mounted on or inside the transmission? Follow the shifter cables into the engine bay to where they connect to the tranny, look for switches or wires there. The engine could have alot of play in it under acceleration, causing a wire to becomes shorted or severed all together. Other than that, if the switch is mounted INSIDE the tranny, I would say screw it and rig up a switch for your reverse lights!
you could start tracing from the inside where the pedal is or under the hood, prefferably under the battery, for the auto's that where you would lube up the shifter if rusty, ( dircectly under the battery tray, cant miss it ) I had to do that not to long ago, so, try taking the battery out, then the battery tray and start looking around hope some of that was help full and good luck !!
as far as i know there is a switch for the backup lights
on the 5 speeds it should be ontop of the trans under the battery tray...on the drivers sire...if you look from underneath the car you might see it up there.....it has a little round plug....i believe the switch is white and blue...im not sure about the autos....but might be the same

Heres a pic I took today of the shifter cable switch, my tranny hasn't slipped in about a week but I wanted to make sure it was still good and free, so I lubbed it up and took a pic in the process, I have a close up pic of the shifter if needed. hope this pic is usefull and good luck !!
