hello, my friends got a 1996 neon sohc with some problems. when you first start the car there is a knocking noise from the bottom end and then it goes away. its only there for a couple of seconds and its not lifter tap its on the bottom end. sounds as if it is coming from the oil pan. the problem is there when he first starts the car or when he revs the engine hard it knocks for a sec and then goes away. any help would be appreciated! thanks ----- sorry maybe knock is too harsh. its more of a rattle as if it would be a heat sheild but its not.

 

maybe bad rod bearings....or just the oil pump starting to go???

 

Is it a MTX? If so, the slight knock is normal in the neon, nothing to worry about. That is if its coming from the tranny. I know mine does it, I have had no problems with it. Try to pinpoint where it is coming from.

 

if its a manual then you will get that sound and is usually the throw out bearing goin bad

 

its an automatic
