Has anyone experimented with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator for a 95 neon. I was wondering if I could bypass the stock regulator in the tank and go with an adjustable regulator. Does the stock regulator return excess fuel/pressure to the tank? Also, since there is no return, would I need a regulator with a return, or can I dead head the pump without damaging it.

Why would you want to do that? The only need for a FPR would be if you have a turbo.

 

Living in the mid west E85 is making a big push. There is also no state tax on E85. This being said the price is nearly 1/2 that of pure petroleum. Even though E85 contains only 2/3 the energy by mass I will still save money. In order to run the E85 SAFELY and not melting a piston or catalytic converter, I need to increase the fuel pressure approximately 30%. I figured you guys out there using forced induction have been playing with regulators.

 

E85? Is that ethanol mixed with gasoline?

 

Yes, It is 85% ethanol 15% gasoline. It is available at many fuel stations.

 

I thought so in that case, you need more than just a FPR. It also requires lots of tuning and such: you need bigger injectors (to make up for the lost BTU's), a wideband 02 sensor (to tune, these aren't cheap), SAFC or something similar, etc. I think there are a couple of people who have converted their neons to run on E85 and it wasn't cheap. You MAY save in the long run, but upfront cost can hurt.
