Default 98 Neon DOHC quitting????

This has been a issue that has been going on for over a year, then the problem stop for 4 months, now the problem is back? Heres the scope, 1998 DOHC A/T sedan, The car will quit about 10 mins into driving the car. then you have to pull over, I will then try to start the car, it just turns over, but will not start, like it's just not firing, you have to wait about 2-5 mins then the car will start right up, but when pulling back onto the road if you give it to much gas it will quit again,BUT sometimes like today, after driving to work which is only 15 mins away it didn't quit. Last week my wife and I were at DQ and we parked the car, the car was off for about 10 mins, I then went to start the car, nothing, would not turn over, the dome light was very weak, we had to have the car boosted, I was able to drive home, this was around 9 p.m so I had the lights on, the gauges were jumping all over the place and the lights were flickering, when we got home I shut the car off then tried to start the car, nothing, this is when I took the battery to be tested and charged, it only took 26 mins to charge the battery at Canadian tire, the Battery and Alternator were tested they were both fine. NO lights come on as in the Check engine light nor the alternator light, plus the battery light didn't come on till about 5 mins from home, the battery light has not come on at anytime when the car quits, I'm complete confused to what is happening? Just wondering if anyone else has had this issuenothing, would not turn over, the dome light was very weak, we had to have the car boosted, I was able to drive home, this was around 9 p.m so I had the lights on, the gauges were jumping all over the place and the lights were flickering, when we got home I shut the car off then tried to start the car, nothing, this is when I took the battery to be tested and charged, it only took 26 mins to charge the battery at Canadian tire,I have taken it to have the Battery tested plus the Alternator, they were both fine. Check for corrosion on the terminals and around the starter. Make sure all connections are clean and tight!!!!! Also inspect your wires for corrosion. You might want to pull the battery out and look under the tray for corrosion also.

Also, check the whole negative battery wire from the battery to the ground location the motor, should be in front of the motor below the starter.. If there is no results, look at the alternator.. You can check it by starting up the car and hooking a multimeter to the battery, should get about 14 volts if your alternator is good.

If it still dies on you while driving, check your fuel pressure at the rail next time it dies. Low pressure you need to look at the fuel pump..

Hope this helps, keep us posted!

It might sound strange. But I think your coil is over reacting or its damaged internally. causing a slow battery drain every now and again.

Just a thought

I think I my have found the issue, there was a ground to the back of the battery that was very rusted, it's like a clip.
After sanding down the ground and attaching it the car has not quite YET

I will keep you all posted on this issue

If you ever have a problem that is intermittent, you gotta look at connections, corrosion, wires and so on.

Good to hear it's running good and I am not surprised the delaer didn't find it. They are rarely thorough!!!!!

i think it was my third or forth car i had a sim prob. it was a '78 volvo 245 wagon (i'm old). it would run great for weeks, then it wouldn't start. get it jumped and it would be ok for one or two days. jump it again and it would be ok for three months. turned out the alt wire ran between the block and header. wire would SOMEtimes short to the block. thought i'd let y'all know. happy motoring.
