Timing belt broke........
1997 Neon 2.0L The timing belt broke, stock motor. Do I have to worry about the pistons hitting the valves and bending some of them? Im not too familiar with the specifics of the Neon motor. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

Neon stock motor is a 2.0L....unless u swapped out a stock 2.4 out of some other car....
When we had the timing belt last replaced on my sisters Neon the guy forgot to replace the tensionor...and well the belt broke and it did bend 4 of the valves though.... check the compression to see if it did or not....

99.9% of the time on a neon if the belt breaks while the motor is running, then sumthing is wrecked....usually it just would bend a few valves, atleast not all of them would go....usually
its an interference motor...if one thing goes then there is usually a chain reaction

Ooops...Heheh My bad on the displacement
Thanks for the reply. A buddy of mine is looking at buying this car for $200. Its a 4 door with a 5 speed transaxle. The body and interior are in typical shape for a 9 year old car. The paint is showing the typical mid '90s Chrysler paint peel in spots. I just hope there are no bent valves. I hate doing cylinder heads on FWD cars. Thanks again.

id give you 200.00 for the car too...even with the bent valves

You could get a head from the junkyard, replace the valves and seals, get a headgasket kit and be on your way. Or sell it for parts!
