Default engine sound??

I had asked about the code 37 awhile back and how it was slipping you guys said it would be the torque converter. Well I have good news on that I called cottman transmission, and I talked with a really nice guy he said there was no way it could be a torque converter he said it could be a switch he told me to drop the transmission pan, change the filter, and fluid, so I did and it shifts perfect and engine light went off. I was amazed usually they try to rip you off this guy helped me save money by telling me what to do. So anyways to my question we fixed that, but now there is a real bad ticking noise coming from the engine. I've had ppl tell me it sounds like a valve train problem any ideas on stuff that goes wrong with neons in the valvetrains? It drives alright it just makes a loud ticking noise. we checked oil, and everything. I don't know. Any help would be great! Thanks

The "lifter" tick is common and you may be low on oil. Does it increase with speed and then go away?

Another possibility is piston slap. If it is piston slap, then it should go away after your car warms up.
